A relief is not fully image and not fully sculpture. It rises from a surface, holds shadow, and changes as the viewer moves. That in-between quality is part of why the male body works so strongly in this format.
Wall reliefs let the body live with the architecture of a room. They do not need a pedestal. They do not ask for the full space of a freestanding sculpture. They can be collected, framed, shipped, and displayed with clarity.
For MASOMA, relief is a practical format and a conceptual one: the body emerges, but never fully leaves the surface.
